2025 HACA Council Nominees for Election
Ballots should be arriving soon. If you know of anyone that would also like to be on the board, please use the "Write in" space and either mail back the postcards, or bring them to the 2/22/25 meeting. We always welcome support, participation, interest, and volunteers!
Linda Brush
President
My name is Linda Brush. I was asked to join the HACA board in December 2023. I am a semi retired bus driver and I’ve lived in and loved Hawaiian acres since 2012. I was a weekly vender at our farmers market selling kombucha, plants, and produce from my farm. I’m super excited to be part of this extraordinary team who will be responsible for rebuilding the community center, restoring the farmers market, and creating a certified kitchen for our community!
Sandy Margriter
Vice President
Sandy Margriter has been a land owner and resident of Hawaiian Acres for more than three decades. She retired as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist from the National Park Service in 2022. She currently co-owns and manages Mahina Acres, a small hobby farm with tropical fruit trees and heritage breed chickens. She wholeheartedly believes that growing and sharing food forges a stronger, more resilient community. When the opportunity arose for a grant to build a certified shared-use kitchen in Hawaiian Acres, she jumped at the chance to help apply for it. A growing frustration over the lack of progress on the community center rebuild led her to join the board of the Hawaiian Acres Community Association last May. She is currently running for Vice President of HACA and will appreciate your support.
Rachel McClintick
Secretary
My husband, Mark McClintick, and I have lived on and off the Big Island in Hawaiian Acres since 2013. Almost that whole time, he was on the HACA Council. Last year, we swapped and I joined the Board to fill a vacancy. Since December, I have been updating our membership list and sending out email updates. I want to see the Board proceed with wisdom, economy, and brotherly love.
I believe strongly in the power of Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, and most of all, Love.
I am excited that HACA is moving forward to rebuild the community center and a new certified kitchen, and both will be a blessing to the community!
A personal long term vision goal would be for our community center to be able to some day offer classes of all sorts including but not limited to art, dance, and cooking classes.
We have so much potential as a culture here in Hawaii, on the Big Island, and in the Acres, and there is much to be shared, exchanged, gifted, taught, learned,-- we ALL have a lot to offer!!
Kris Heimstra
Treasurer
New resident to Hawai'ian Acres as of Thanksgiving 2024, hailing from rural northern California (and a brief stint on O'ahu). I live with my daughter, son-in-law and grandson on Uhinina Ana Rd.
I've worked professionally in various business administration capacities for the last 20 years. My roles have included office management, full charge bookkeeping, comptroller, and fiscal analyst. My last position in government service was for my county's Health & Human Services department, as a Fiscal Analyst. This work included revenue tracking over $650 million annually, and cost accounting/operational budgeting of $250 million. My favorite pet project while in county service was our Senior Nutrition (Meals on Wheels) program. Managing the contract and business operations of this commercial kitchen translates well to our opportunity to build a community center and kitchen!
I currently work for the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement in database administration, helping them keep their website and integrated tourism platform operating at peak efficiency.
The administrative/fiscal/tech skills I bring to the table can be invaluable to HACA in getting us organized, current and transparent to membership. I see where I can be helpful in coordinating and disseminating information to membership. I'd love to take on keeping meetings, agendas and meeting minutes posted to our website. I intend on reconciling our books on a monthly basis and making our balance and obligations publicly available for review, in real-time (if possible).
For me, helping out is the best way to become rapidly oriented and integrated in my new community. I love the Acres, and I want to be a part of making it better for everyone!

I have lived in the Acres for almost 11 years, and on the HACA Board for 9, most of the time serving as Vice President, Market Manager when it was operating, and other duties when needed. I have been a volunteer for most of my life. I care about making our community better for everyone.

Aloha, I've been a property owner in Hawaiian Acres since 2004. I'm a software engineer, specializing in real-time controls for telescopes on Mauna Kea. I'm running for a director position on the HACA Council because after joining several recent community events, I've been inspired by the dedication and honesty of the incoming board and would like to contribute. I believe that the most important challenges in front of the board include rebuilding the community center, providing a farmers market venue and building our commercial kitchen.

My name is Aaron Truitt and I’ve been a part of the Hawaiian Acres community for 3 years now. I’ve gotten to know many of you as I learn about permaculture and teach about electronic repair. I plan to lead our community watch group as I’ve been leading the community watch effort in my area.
